The Rationale
KokaneeQuest is intended to engage the curiosity of middle school students to learn about a real problem in their own community. The webquest is designed to meet many of the British Columbia learning standards outlined in the Science 7, Social Studies 7 and Language Arts 7 IRP's. Beyond learning the prescribed learning outcomes set forth by the Education Ministry, KokaneeQuest ventures to connect students to their place and develop a sense of responsibility as a citizen of Kelowna British Columbia. It is also intended to inspire students be witnessing one of nature's
moving miracles - the herioc cycle of salmon.
The Pedagogy
This Webquest is designed for grade 7 students in British Columbia and integrates an interdisciplinary approach to learning. KokaneeQuest incorporates many learning styles appropriate for middle school learners including exploratory learning, co-operative learning and aims at constructing new cognitive development as well as social skills development. To complete this webquest students will need to utilize multiple intelligences and cooperate as a team. KokaneeQuest is ideal for middle school students who have a sense of curiosity about the real world and how it works.
